12.2.2020 PARENT UPDATE COVID-19
December 2, 2020
Dear Parents:
Update from yesterday - I was just informed that the staff member in Little Lambs 1 classroom is now exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19. She will be tested today. Therefore, the Little Lambs 1 classroom will be closed until further notice. If she gets a positive result, we anticipate the room to be closed until December 15th. If she tests negative, we anticipate reopening the room on Monday. All measures have been taken to clean and disinfect the room. Per health department advice, there is no reason to close the entire Center.
Siblings of the children in that class are also excluded from care. If any of your children begin to exhibit the symptoms of Covid-19, please contact us immediately. In children, in addition to fever and cough, symptoms include runny nose, stomach upset, pain or diaherra, unusually fussiness, and pink eye. Thank you for your continued cooperation during this health crisis. Prayers are welcome!
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents:
One of our staff members working with the Little Lambs 1 classroom was notified today that she was in direct contact last Thursday with someone who tested positive for Covid-19 today. She is being sent home, per health department recommendations, to quarantine for the suggested 14 day period. She is not showing any symptoms of Covid-19 herself, so unless that changes, she is free to return to work on December 10, 2020.
This is considered an “indirect contact” so there is no recommendation for the students or the other staff members or the Center to take any action at this time. Naturally, we will make sure the classroom is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected immediately.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call.
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents:
We want to thank all of you for your contribution to “operation paper towel”! With all of your help, we managed to get enough supplies to get through this week and maybe even next week! After that, hopefully, the supply will catch up with the demand. If you left a receipt with the staff, I’ll make sure you get a reimbursement.
On another note, I received another call at 4:15 p.m. today concerning a student in the Gideon’s Army classroom who came in direct contact with a household family member who tested positive with Covid-19. Our student is asymptomatic and was not at the Center today. The child will quarantine for two weeks, as per health department recommendation. The classroom was cleaned thoroughly and fogged and ready for class tomorrow.
As Jeni mentioned in her post yesterday, we are incredibly blessed to have such an amazing community that pulls together and supports one another in tough times! Let’s continue to lift our daycare up in prayer, for healing for those fighting the virus, and that God’s hand of protection and His blessings will continue to sustain us.
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents:
Yesterday, Jeni posted the good news that our daycare family who was exposed to COVID-19 received their negative test results. We are so grateful that our prayers were answered favorably! While this was a stressful time for all, we want to express our thanks for everyone’s support and cooperation, as we navigated through the situation. We were blessed with the best possible outcome.
The news we are receiving in our updates from the county health department is that COVID-19 cases are indeed spiking in Macomb County. As I expressed in my last letter, we have reviewed all our health and safety measures with our staff and have been intentional in our cleaning and disinfecting procedures. We will continue to do all we can to keep our families safe. We ask for your continued cooperation in keeping your children home if ANYONE in the household presents with a fever, persistent cough, breathing difficulties, runny nose, diaherra, vomiting, rash, pink eye, fatigue, complaints of achiness, or in the case of babies - extreme fussiness, for 72 hours after they are symptom-free, without fever/symptom reducing medications. If ANYONE in your household has been diagnosed with or has come in direct contact with someone with COVID-19 for more than 15 minutes and closer than 6 feet, please contact us immediately and follow health department recommendations for quarantine. So far, by all of us working together, we have maintained a healthy, safe environment. Even though we are all “COVID weary”, now is not a time for complacency, but a time to continue to do what we have shown is working!
I am grateful to be a part of a community that pulls together and supports one another during difficult times! We want you to know our desire to be there to support you. Beyond caring for your children - we care for YOU, too. With the holidays upon us, in the midst of these trying circumstances, if there is a need that we can help with, please feel free to reach out. We will continue to lift you in prayer daily.
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents:
I received a phone call at 2 p.m. that a daycare family was in close contact with someone who tested positive for Covid. The parents came to pick up their children immediately and agreed to quarantine for 14 days, which is the policy. When I went to gather their children from their classrooms, each child exhibited a single symptom of Covid, but without fever. In a case like that, we have to treat it as Covid positive, until further notice.
With all of that said, we will be closing the Anointed Angels Room (Ms. Krisit’s) and the Two x Two 2 Room (Ms. Kadesha’s) until November 30th. All families will be informed if we receive a call confirming a positive result, but to be on the safe side, we will quarantine these rooms. There is no reason to be concerned that other classrooms were affected, as the rooms stay self-contained. Only these classrooms will be shut down completely after being cleaned and disinfected for the entire two weeks, unless we get further instruction from the health department. During this quarantine, please monitor your child for any symptoms of Covid and report to us if anyone tests positive in the family.
I know there will be plenty of questions. Right now, I’m just trying to handle the immediate situation, but I am available to take your texts - just be patient if it takes a minute to respond. Prayers are welcome!
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents:
I received notification today that a family member of one of our employees tested positive for Covid 19 yesterday. The staff member has not been in close contact with her family member, is asymptomatic, but she also got tested anyway. She tested negative. Even so, we decided for the sake of caution and in agreement with CDC recommendations, she will quarantine for a 14 day period. We have taken additional precautionary measures to have deep cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting done, over and above our regular processes, in the Anointed Angels room.
My staff has been briefed on this latest development. I have reviewed all the health and safety protocols with them, as this is a reminder that we are still facing a virus that we can best fight by staying diligent within the Center. We will continue to maintain the highest of standards, in accordance with our health and safety policies. We will partner with the health department, as instructed, should they contact us. We appreciate the ongoing cooperation of both staff and daycare families.
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents:
I imagine many of you hold your breath when you see that there is an update, anticipating some new restriction or additional protocol. Today I have more good news to share. We received another grant to be applied to August tuition charges. Like before, it is based on your costs and enrollment, so everyone’s amount may differ and it may be more or less than the last grant, depending on those factors. If you have any questions, please feel free to call.
As we approach the end of October, I still have a handful of parents who have not submitted an updated health appraisal for this school year. I indicated in my last letter that you had until November 1st to turn them in or your child’s enrollment status will be in jeopardy. By Friday, I will send out individual letters to those who have not turned them in and your child will be suspended from care until they are submitted, so please make sure they are in. If you have any questions as to whether or not you have submitted yours, contact me before Friday.
I want to end by expressing my gratitude to everyone for their continued cooperation with the new health and safety protocols. We have experienced no Covid, no cases of the flu this season, and have experienced no spread of communicable viruses. Everyone has been very mindful of keeping their children home when they present with even the mildest symptoms and I believe that has really been a factor. I’m looking forward to continued health for all of us!
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents:
I cannot begin to thank everyone in our Wee Love Community enough for their cooperation with our new health and safety plan during this Covid crisis. We have experienced no spread of illness at the daycare because of everyone’s compliance and precautionary actions, so clearly our adherence to the Guidelines for Safe Child Care Operations and our personalized plan are proving to be effective. Governor Whitmer has extended the “State of Emergency” until October 27, 2020, with the current Executive Orders in place until October 31, 2020, so we understand we can’t retreat yet. Please continue to follow the guidelines and make us aware of any reason for your child’s absence from daycare, so we can do our part. Should there be any communicable disease of any kind, whether children or staff, it will be posted at both the check-in stations to keep you appraised.
We recognize that many of you have not been able to schedule visits to the doctor for your child’s “well visit”, as demonstrated by the overwhelming number of families who have not turned in their health appraisals. This is a licensing year at Wee Love and in order not to be cited for non-compliance, all health appraisals have to be in, or your child may be dismissed from the program until one is provided. Please be advised that our licensing process begins November 1, 2020, so anyone who doesn’t have their health appraisal in by then is in jeopardy. On a positive note, we were in 100% compliance of vaccinations, as reported to the health department in our annual report. Thank you all for making that happen.
The cold weather came upon us suddenly, with temperatures dropping from summer temperatures last week, down to 42* today. While we know that children don’t get sick by going outside in cold weather, we also are aware that if not properly dressed for outside temperatures, the cold temperatures may weaken the immune system and the children’s ability to fight infection. Since we take the children outdoors daily, unless there are inclement weather conditions, it is very important you remember to send your child with the appropriate outdoor clothing. Some parents have expressed that they are unsure what is appropriate. The following is a general recommendation: a winter jacket, hat, and mittens or gloves are appropriate when temperatures dip to 25*; a light to medium jacket, hat, and gloves for temperatures between 25*-44*; and for temperatures between 45* and 64* a fleece or a light jacket over long sleeves. No jacket and short sleeves are appropriate for temperatures over 65*. When the snow comes, it is good to have leggings and boots sent with your child, as we take them out to enjoy the fun in the snow.
As you know, the holiday season is upon us. Being a Christian daycare, we purposely choose not to celebrate Halloween, as indicated in our Parent’s Manual. Instead, we focus on celebrating fall and harvest themes. Please refrain from sending your child in novelty clothing or costumes that celebrate Halloween, no matter how “innocent” or cute they are. The teachers will provide the children with classroom Harvest Party, in which we have a “pajama day” in lieu of costumes and parents can send in covid- friendly “treats” to be shared. In November, we celebrate Thanksgiving, typically with a parade for the preschool age children. This year will look a little different, but we will play it by ear. If we can’t do it in person, perhaps we can still do it and post it on FB. Christmas is our most important celebration with the children and their families. Again, whether we can have our Christmas program “as usual” depends on what the future brings with the “State of Emergency”. We will be praying for the opportunity to celebrate as a community.
Here is a reminder of our Holiday scheduled days off for the remainder of year:
Thursday and Friday, November 26 & 27 – Thanksgiving
Thursday and Friday, December 24 & 25 – Christmas
Thursday and Friday, December 31 & January 1 – New Year’s
Your account will be charged full rate for all three of those weeks, unless you choose to keep your child(ren) out for the entire week, in which case you only pay half rate. Please let us know in advance as to whether your child will be attending or not, for staffing and billing purposes.
Finally, I think it is important that you all know that we all continue to pray for you, your children, and your families through these difficult and uncertain times. We consider it a blessing that you entrust your children to us and for that we are very grateful!
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents:
We have our final enrollment for the fall and the new classrooms have been assigned. Everyone should have received a letter telling you who your child’s new teacher is. You will also receive a “welcome letter” from your child’s new teacher, explaining what you need to know about their classroom. Ms. Jeni posted a short “get to know me” snapshot of all the teachers this week on the private family facebook page, so I hope that helps in the transition. I know this “move up” looks different than it has in the past. Many have expressed they feel a little uncertain not being able to see the new classroom and spend a little time getting to know the teacher and caregivers in a more personal way. Also, many students are making the transition from “daily sheets” explaining everything about their day, to not receiving them now. That is a difficult transition for parents in “normal” circumstances and may feel especially overwhelming to you right now. While I don’t want to “over promise” what we can do to make this easier for you, I can say that we will do what we can.
First of all, my entire staff will be working from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. this week, which is our new extended hours. Hopefully, that allows the staff to make themselves available at both drop off and pick up to connect with the parents for at least a “meet and greet”. If you have any specific questions or concerns, that would be a good time to bring them up. Also, feel free to send informational notes TO the teachers, so they can also be aware of your needs/expectations/suggestions. They will respond and/or send you notes with any important information you need to have. As always, I’m available to facilitate the information going back and forth, too.
Second, behind the scenes the teachers have been getting acquainted with their new students and getting the children introduced to their new classrooms. Their present teachers have also updated and passed on the milestone check-list and cumulative folders to the new teachers.
Finally, if you have any suggestions that will help us to help you feel more comfortable, please feel free to share. Ms. Jeni will continue to post pictures and updates on the facebook page and I’m confident everyone will ease into the new routines smoothly.
I would like to remind parents to label everything and send all bedding and extra clothing in large, sealable plastic bags. If your child has a special blanket or comfort stuffed animal that they bring for naptime, remember it has to stay here all week - not transferred daily. Also, please do not allow your child to bring any other toys from home. Keep in mind that the cooler weather will be coming soon and the children go outside daily. Please make sure they have all the necessary hats, gloves, leggings, and boots available on days when it is needed.
Over the summer we were able to extend some grace with drop off and pick up schedules, as we recognized everyone was adjusting to the challenges of balancing work with our reduced hours. Moving forward, we will have to tighten up and stick to set schedules. Everyone has signed an enrollment contract that states their drop off and pick up times. If you need to vary from the contracted time, due to a special circumstance, courtesy communication is more important now than ever. Please be reminded that all children need to be dropped off by 9 a.m. Because of the new protocols, we are using classroom caregivers at the entrances to receive the children and take them to their classrooms and we need them in their assigned classrooms by 9 a.m. for the purpose of counts and curriculum. In addition, if you are late in picking your child up, your account will be charged $1.00 per minute, minimum $5.00 per child fee. If late pickup becomes a regular issue, your child may be dismissed from the program.
One final reminder concerning immunizations and health appraisals. All children need to be up-to-date with their immunizations or have a waiver on file by September 28th. Our report goes to the State on that date and children who are not in compliance will be excluded from the program. Also, health appraisals signed by your child’s doctor have to be returned before the end of the month. The health department is enforcing these requirements diligently this year. If you have any questions concerning this, please contact me.
Finally, please be mindful of the health care protocols. While they are extreme and inconvenient, by sticking to them, we have managed to keep our staff and children healthy. If your child or anyone in your household has a fever of 100*, chills, a persistent cough (for whatever reason), shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diaherra, pink eye, or any other possible symptoms of Covid 19, we ask you inform us. If any of these symptoms present while your child is in daycare, you will be contacted. If it is determined that your child is too unwell to stay in care, we will isolate your child to our “sick room” and (s)he will be excluded from care until symptom free for 72 hours without medication. If you have more than one child in our care, all the children in the family will be sent home if one presents with illness. As we enter into the cold and flu season, I anticipate seeing a lot of these symptoms. While your child won’t be sent home with every sniffle, if they present with any fever or 2 or more of the symptoms (in babies, add extreme fussiness) without a fever, they will be sent home, even if they don’t “seem sick”. Unfortunately, these are the guidelines we have been given and we need to adhere to, so your cooperation is necessary.
We look forward to a safe, healthy, and happy year. We are privileged to be the Center you chose for your child’s care. We continue to pray and expect God’s best for all of us!
Blessings,
Peggy

Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents,
Just wanted to give an update – even though there is nothing definitive I have to tell you…lol. As stated in our last update, we need all re-enrollments to be in by September 1st. There are many who are waiting until the last minute, understandably so, due to needing more information from their school or employer, before making their final decision about coming back. I’d like to extend a big “thank you” to those who have submitted their forms already. I will go through them all and contact you if any information is missing. Also, once reviewed, I will be applying your early registration charge of $35.00. Most that have been received thus far will be charged Monday, August 24th, if you haven’t already been charged.
As far as the “move up” – all children will be making a move to a new classroom on September 8th when they return after Labor Day. The only exceptions will be the new babies in the nursery. You will receive a letter from your child’s teacher, but unfortunately, we won’t know until the week before the exact placements of everyone. It all depends on enrollment and staffing.
On a side note, we want to make sure everyone has read and understands the new health and safety protocols. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. We want to make sure everyone has a “plan B” in place, in case of a class closure or Center closure. I also want to highlight that in the event that your child or anyone in the household contracts ANY ILLNESS, it may result in your child being excluded for a minimum of 3 days. This will undoubtedly add to all the uncertainties, so having a “back- up plan” will bring a measure of preparedness.
We continue to pray through all of our decisions and are praying for you, as well. May we all experience the grace of God in abundance during these ongoing difficult times.
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents,
Last week Governor Whitmer signed an executive order requiring all childcare workers, along with children ages 4 and up, to wear masks in hallways and all common spaces. In this order, she also states that staff members and children 12 years and older must wear face coverings in classrooms. Due to this directive, we ask that all parents with children in the day care ages 4 and older, send in a mask with their child to wear in all common areas. We also want to remind all parents that children ages 3 and up need to have a mask in the building, in case of an illness. Keep in mind, face coverings are not required for any child who cannot medically tolerate it, during meal time, during high-intensity activities, or outside while physically distanced.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents:
This has been a very interesting year! Everything was turned upside down, but I’m happy to say the daycare is doing very well, in spite of the adversity. Since we re-opened in May we have been running at about 60% of our normal student population. We have put new protocols in place, which have turned out to be very effective. There have been no reported illnesses at all in the daycare – only one child became ill with a typical childhood virus over a weekend and did not return to school until it was completely clear. For those of you who have been hesitant for your child to return to daycare, I hope this helps put your mind at ease.
We recognize that things are still uncertain for many of you. We have tried to accommodate the needs of our families without putting a financial strain on anyone. We have been blessed to be able to do this, as we have been told that approximately 40% of daycares in our area are now closed, most of them permanently. We receive calls daily inquiring if we have openings for new children. With that said, it is time for our annual re-enrollment. Moving forward, we will need all of our families to fill out the forms for re-enrollment and submit them before September 1, 2020. Forms can be downloaded from our website and emailed to me at weelovedaycare@gmail.com. If we do not receive your forms by then, you forfeit your spot and your deposit. Many have inquired as to whether a spot can be held by paying half- rate, as is offered during holidays, vacations, or illnesses. Unfortunately, that will not be possible. Many parents of full time students are requesting to drop to part-time status, as well. As always, full time students take precedence, so if you change from full time to part time, you may forfeit your spot. We have limited classroom sizes and now more than ever, consistency is important – for safety sake.
Since opening, our hours of operation have been 8 am – 5 pm. Beginning September 8th, we will extend the hours to 7 am – 5 pm. After we are firmly established with returning students’ schedules, we plan to extend the hours more. Right now, we are trying to stay within the health and safety protocols we have set and that we have seen are working. Obviously, all of our plans may change if there are changes implemented by the governing authorities.
We will continue to endeavor to preserve the integrity and safety of our Center and serve the needs of our students. Attached is our COVID Response & Preparedness Plan. We encourage you to join our private Wee Love Family Facebook group, where we have been able to communicate daily. If you have any other questions or concerns or feedback, please text me at 586-933-6777.
Blessings,
Peggy

Preschool Graduation Update
We are so excited that graduation is almost here! Your children have been practicing diligently to perform for you at their ceremony. Obviously, due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic, things will look a little different this year than in previous years. The biggest difference is that we will not be able to gather together after the ceremony for a celebration reception. To compensate for that, we will be giving each child a gift certificate to Cathy’s Homemade Goodies, so you will have an opportunity, if you choose, to join with other graduates and their families for an ice cream treat. We are asking that every child arrive to their classroom by 6:15pm, where they will receive their cap and gown, while you find your seat. At the end of the ceremony, the children will remove their cap and gown and leave them on the seats. When we release them to you, we ask that you exit through the same doors you came in, adhering to social distancing regulations.
There will also be some differences due to social distancing and masks regulations. We are fortunate to be able to share a building with New Life Christian Church, where they are already set up for such gatherings. All the rows have been set six feet apart. We are asking that families stay together in their own row, leaving a minimum of 3 empty chairs between families, allowing us to accommodate the number of guests you plan to bring. We do ask that you keep the number limited to 10 guests, so we don’t go over the safe limit of social distancing. In addition, everyone should enter through the main doors of the church around the back of the building, wearing a mask. Once you get settled in your seats, you may remove your mask, but please put it back on when you exit your seats and the building.
We are excited to announce that we are able to live stream the event on our website this year. The feed is on the homepage of weelovedaycare.com and will automatically start streaming when the ceremony begins. This gives your family members, who are not able to attend, an opportunity to watch from home. The video feed will be available afterwards on our parent’s private Facebook page, for anyone who would like to view it.
Thank you for your continued understanding and patience during these unprecedented times. We look forward to seeing you on Friday.
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents:
Next week begins our summer program for the preschool graduates and the older siblings of current students. If you have not submitted your paperwork yet, please get it to me as soon as possible. Forms can be downloaded from our website and you can drop them off or email that to me.
Now is not too soon to begin early registration for the fall. All students need to be reregistered by September 1st. If you do so before then, you receive a discounted reregistration fee of $35.00. If you wait until after September 1st, your child will be disenrolled, you are not guaranteed a spot, and the cost of enrollment increases to $50.00. Forms can be downloaded from our website and can be emailed to weelovedaycare@gmail.com. Please remember to have your doctor fill out the annual health appraisal form.
Information for Preschool Graduates
Today was the original “graduation day” for our preschoolers. We are a little sad that is not happening tonight, but we have scheduled a new day and time to celebrate on Friday, July 24th at 6:30 p.m. Children need to be in their classroom by 6:15 p.m. Since we have no idea what guidelines for large groups will look like on that date, we will proceed with the same guidelines we are observing now. We will have to limit the number of people attending, unlike in the past, but we want to make sure that those who need to be here are here. Therefore, please fill out this parent survey so we can get an idea of how many guests everyone wishes to have join in the celebration.
The preschool teachers have set a few dates for the children to join together to practice for graduation, even those who have not returned or will not be returning to the Center. If you are not at the Center, but plan to have your child participate in the graduation ceremony, please make arrangements for them to join their class at 10 a.m. on the following dates:
Finally, graduation pictures will be taken on Wednesday, June 24th at 10:00 a.m. Children will wear caps and gowns that we provide for the pictures and a group picture will also be taken.
This next week will also be the first week many of our students will be returning after the shutdown. We are excited to have everyone back and for those who still haven’t returned – we look forward to seeing you soon. Please remember to contact me by the Thursday preceding the week you return, so we are prepared to receive your child. We are looking forward to a wonderful summer with your children!

Dear Parents:
Much to my surprise, the stay at home order was lifted sooner than expected. Many of you have indicated you would return June 15th or whenever the order was lifted, assuming it would be extended, not shortened. Therefore, if you have previously stated you would be returning “June 15th or when the order is lifted” but are not planning on returning on Monday, please text me at 586-933-6777. Even though I have previously heard from some of you, a reminder text by Thursday would be appreciated if you are or are not returning Monday. For right now, no one will be charged to hold their spot if they choose to continue to stay at home. If that changes, you will be notified right away.
The hours will continue to be 8 am – 5 pm until further notice. The early release of the order actually makes extending the hours more difficult, instead of easier, as the CDC recommendations stay the same for the Center and the student population will increase. Please know that I am diligently working on a plan to extend the hours and will let you know as soon as possible. Feedback on the hours is appreciated. If the daycare not being open full hours is keeping you from returning, we need to know that. For those who have returned, but have employers who are starting to express frustration, let me know that, too. The needs of the families weigh into future decisions.
We will continue the drop off and pick up routines as indicated in previous communications. While we are not requiring the children to wear their masks, all children over 3 should have a mask, in case they present symptoms of illness while in our care. We do ask that the parents continue to wear masks when in the facility until further notice.
Thank you all for your cooperation and understanding during these difficult times. We continue to lift all our families up in prayer. As always, if there is anything you need or questions you have, feel free to reach out.
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents,
This week we have double the number of children than last week, as expected. It has been so nice to see them all and we can’t wait until all the children are back! The transition thus far has been incredibly smooth. Our thanks to all for your patience and flexibility.
As you all know, our governor has extended the stay at home order until Friday, June 12th . I still have the survey you filled out, indicating when you thought your child(ren) would be returning. I’m using that to make the roster for next week. If your circumstances have changed and you won’t be returning on the date you initially indicated, please let me know. Some have already contacted me to say it is a week- by- week decision. If that is you, please let me know by Thursday if you plan to return on Monday. Again, if you have any questions about the new policies or procedures, please refer to the last couple of notifications.
For all parents of the graduating students from Ms. Kristen’s and Ms. Cindy’s rooms - we still plan to have a graduation ceremony. We are trying to work out the details now, but we will keep you updated. Even if your child does not return for the remainder of the school year, they are welcome to participate in our graduation celebration.
Finally, starting today, we will be opening up registration for school age siblings of present students. If you need summer care for your older child, please contact me immediately. We are limited on the number of students we can take, so it will be on a first-come, first serve basis. We will NOT be opening up to former or new students who do not have a sibling presently enrolled. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by text at 586-933-6777.
We look forward to a wonderful summer and we will continue to keep you updated as things progress.
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents:
We just completed our first week back in operation. I am pleased to report that things went very smoothly, for both the children and staff, with our new procedures and policies in place. Next week we anticipate having double the number of children and we anticipate full classrooms by June 1st , or whenever the stay- at- home order is lifted.
Beginning next week, we will be able to make some changes to our drop-off and pick-up procedures already. We will now have two entrances for drop-off and pick-up. In addition to the circle drive, we will open the main doors to the church around the back of the building to accommodate the infant and young toddler parents. You reach these doors before you get to the regular entrance in the back. If you are dropping off an infant or young toddler, you may enter the building and drop your child off at their classroom door, after a teacher signs you in and takes temperatures. Please wear a mask and be mindful of the social distancing recommendation of staying 6 feet away from those near you, other than the transfer of the baby/toddler to the teacher. For the older children, the procedure will stay the same, unless a child is having a difficult time at drop off. If they are having a tough time, the parent will also be able to walk them to their classroom to help the transition.
Another adjustment is to our mask policy. All staff members of the daycare and church will wear masks upon entering the building until they reach their classroom or office and when in a common area and/or they cannot keep the recommended 6 foot distance from others. The teachers and children in the classroom will not be required to wear masks, since we will maintain the same group population daily.
Our hours will remain 8 am to 5 pm until further notice, but please know it is our desire to extend the hours as soon as we are able, even if we have to extend them in half hour increments until we reach our normal hours. In the meantime, please keep in mind that drop-off may take a few minutes longer, so prepare for that. Also, as mentioned before, please have a back-up plan in place in case your child is sick, has to be sent home, or if the Center has to close again due to illness.
If you have not read our previous posts, please take the time to do so. All information concerning our re-opening and procedural changes are communicated there. If you have any questions or concerns, or your circumstances or start dates have changed, please contact me. The quickest and easiest way to reach me is through text at 586-933-6777. Thank you for all your cooperation and we look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Welcome Back!
We are delighted to be back in operation! We have missed all of our families so much during this time and I think it is reasonable to assume that you missed us, too! Things will look different when you first come back and some things may change, week to week, until all restrictions are lifted. Below are some answers to frequently asked questions, instructions, and concerns:

Welcome Back!
We are delighted to be back in operation! We have missed all of our families so much during this time and I think it is reasonable to assume that you missed us, too! Things will look different when you first come back and some things may change, week to week, until all restrictions are lifted. Below are some answers to frequently asked questions, instructions, and concerns:
What’s New?
Drop Off and Pick up Protocols
- Only one door to be used by families - circle drive door, closest to the sign on the building.
- There will be a table barrier - equipped with thermometer, gloves, masks, hand sanitizers
- Please have the same person dropping off and picking up your child every day. Designated person should not be a “vulnerable person”.
- Staff at the table will sign your child in and escort your child to their room.
- Only one family at a time will be allowed to enter.
- Temperatures of adult and child will be taken. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF ANYONE IN THE FAMILY HAS A TEMPERATURE OF 100* or >.
- Two to three people will be required to staff the table at beginning of day and end of the day.
- Someone will be posted at the door at all times.
- People who greet need to refrain from hugging or shaking hands and will have a mask and gloves on.
- Parents are asked to take your child’s temperature at home and confirm your child has not had a fever, shortness of breath, or cough.
- Temperatures of everyone coming in the building will be taken.
- Everyone who enters the building should wear a mask, if medically tolerated. If your child is uncomfortable with a mask, they do not have to wear it for now, although you should provide one. We plan to work with the kids to encourage masks, but as stated before, not at the risk of their mental health or development. Any adult who is in common areas of the building will wear masks, unless not medically tolerated.
- Masks will NOT be worn by children at nap, when eating, or when engaging in vigorous physical activity
- Social distancing will be strived for, as much as we can with the children and absolutely will be practiced with staff members. Children need care, particularly babies and young toddlers, that prevents us from social distancing. We will keep group sizes under 10, we will not mix groups, and we will maintain the same groups for an entire week of care, subject to change the following week, until they can all get back to their original classes.
- Our regular hand washing and cleaning and disinfecting procedures will continue, but even more vigorously, more frequently, and more intentionally.
- Staffing ratios will be adjusted to accommodate vigilant hygiene.
- We will observe your child for signs of illness, including fever, shortness of breath, flushed cheeks, rapid breathing, fatigue, or fussiness. If your child exhibits any of these symptoms, they will be separated to a designated “sick room” and you will be notified immediately. It is expected that you have your child picked up expediently; failure to do so may result in dismissal from our program.
- If you report a fever of a family member or your child is sent home with a fever of 100* or greater, or sent home with any other symptoms of illness, the symptoms and/or the fever has to be resolved without medication for 72 hours before your child may return to daycare. While we recognize this is extreme, it is necessary to help slow the spread of a virus we are so uncertain of at this time, especially with the latest updates concerning the potential impact on children.
- While it’s always been a policy of ours not to allow toys from home, this policy will now be stringently enforced.
- Our hours of operation RIGHT NOW are 8 am to 5 pm. As soon as all restrictions are lifted by the State, we can return to normal operations. I cannot say “when” as we don’t know what we don’t know. These hours were chosen in response to the survey sent out to the parents and an overwhelming majority chose this option. As things loosen up, even before all restrictions are lifted, we may be able to expand the hours, but at this time this is what we can offer. If you have to withdraw your child temporarily at this time because the schedule doesn’t accommodate your needs, please contact me so you don’t forfeit your child’s placement.
- Please have a plan for emergency childcare in place, should we be forced to close again if a student or staff member tests positive for COVID19, if we experience staffing issues, there is an outbreak in the community or any other reason as directed by the Dept. of Licensing or the local Health Dept. We have an emergency preparedness plan in place for the Center and would expect any future closing to be short term (as in 24 hrs - 72 hrs), but we want you to be prepared as well, in case of emergency.
- Communication is very important at this time. We ask that you all update your emergency contact information if there have been any changes in the past year. Also, we realize this will be a big adjustment for both your child and you. It helps if we work together and good communication is needed on both sides. If there are other factors, such as food insecurity, financial stability, illness, death of a family member or other disruptions in the home, please let me know, as these things affect your child and maybe we can help with resources that you are not aware of. Naturally, we will keep any communication of that nature confidential.

Dear Parents,
Thank you all who responded so quickly to our survey. It was the tool we needed to make the decision to open on May 18, 2020, 8am - 5 pm. If you did not respond to the survey, and you plan to return on May 18th, please contact me immediately. As stated before, we have to make some alterations to our program and the number of students and teachers matter more now than ever before.
There are several things that may look different initially. Here are just the bullet points:
After my last communication, I received a few calls from parents with concerns, specifically about maintaining the same classrooms their child was in and the issue of masks. I’d like to address both questions as best I can. First of all, in case you are not aware, I am a certified trauma specialist, with an emphasis on children and trauma. I think we can all agree that this disruption can prove to be traumatic for many children, as well as adults. It is very important how we handle everything to keep it from causing a long-term negative effect on mental health. Your child’s (and your) mental health is as important to us as their physical well-being and we plan to acknowledge and maintain stability, while adhering to as many of the guidelines as is reasonably possible. With that said, the CDC recommends masks for all people, age 3 and older, in a public setting. Governor Whitmere mandated employers to provide masks for their employees and parents provide them for their children. That implies they expect all to wear them, while in childcare. But a clarification was made on the Michigan Coronavirus website that states:
“At this time, local childcare providers should set their own policies about whether children should wear cloth face coverings, while in childcare. This decision will depend on the age of the child, number of children in care and the level of community spread. Cloth face coverings should never be placed on young children under 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or anyone unable to remove the face covering without assistance. While cloth face coverings help slow the spread of COVID-19, it can be difficult for children (especially toddlers and preschoolers) to wear a cloth face covering. The American Academy of Pediatrics provides tips for how to help children be more comfortable wearing cloth face coverings and provides more information to inform your decision about whether to require children in your care, over age 2, to wear cloth face coverings.”
Our policy is that parents, staff, and children entering the building should have a face mask on, unless they cannot medically tolerate it - this includes mental health limitations, such as anxiety. So to clarify, if wearing a mask, by anyone - child or staff- should cause breathing restrictions, undue anxiety, excessive fear, and/or any of the limitations listed above, then they will NOT be required to wear them. With that said, we will be training our staff to help themselves and children tolerate the masks. We do ask that parents wear masks at drop off and pick up, and that you have the same person dropping off and picking up as consistently as possible. Additionally, the staff member at the check in point, who will be taking temperatures of the parents, students, and staff entering the building, will have a mask on. These simple adjustments will additionally reduce exposure. We do want to slow the spread of the virus, but we have put these and other measures in place that will work toward that goal, so masks don’t become a significant issue, one way or the other.
As far as room assignments, we indicated that there are recommendations that we keep siblings together and all medical/first responders children grouped together. Once again, they have extended us liberty to make our own decisions, as to what is best for the children and keeping everyone healthy and safe. At this time, especially the first couple of weeks, when we have extremely reduced student counts, your child(ren) may be in a classroom with children they typically were not with before. My intent is to provide as much “normalcy” as possible, especially since returning to school after an absence of so long will be an adjustment. What I can promise is that whatever group of children and whatever teachers are in their room, they will be there for the entire week. If there are children combined from two classes, my hope is to have a teacher from each of those classes in the room, for familiarity sake. As more children begin returning, we will open more classrooms. My plan is that by the time all the restrictions are lifted and all the students return, everyone will return to the classroom they were in before the shut down, with the same students and staff. We will not have our daycare annual “move up” until September, when everything is more stable. For sure the first couple of weeks will look very different for the returning children. The good news is children are very resilient and adaptable and our staff is well trained and will be sensitive to the needs of the children.
If you have additional questions or just feel the need to “talk through” how this is going to look moving forward, please feel free to contact me.
Blessings,
Peggy Brady

Dear Parents:
This week we are preparing the daycare for reopening. There are several changes that will take place initially, until all government restrictions are lifted. While there are some guidelines that are definitive, there are many things that we will have to adjust as we go along. Let me share with you the plan moving forward, keeping in mind that things can change in an instant.
We will be coming in this week to rearrange classroom spaces and toys; all classrooms have been deep cleaned. All classrooms will be limited in size, with a higher teacher/child ratio. Children will remain in a single classroom with the same group of children and staff for the entire day, which will require us to adjust our hours for a season. All families will use the circle drive entrance to drop off and pick up their children. An employee will temporarily take the responsibility to sign your child in/out on the kiosk and take your child to their classroom. Temperatures will be taken for all children and staff upon arrival. Individuals will not be allowed entrance if they register 100* or higher, no matter what the cause. There are recommendations concerning keeping siblings together and keeping children of medical and/or first responders together in classrooms, so you may see a change in the roster of your child’s classroom. The classroom schedule and curriculum will also be adjusted. Your child’s teachers will be sending home more daily communication, since your direct contact with them will be minimal.
We have been directed to closely monitor the health of our population, both students and staff. We ask that families take the responsibility to keep your child home if they or ANY member of the family has a temperature of 100* or higher and inform us of the cause of their absence. A designated “sick room” will be established to isolate any student who presents with a temperature or COVID-19 symptoms, as posted on the bulletin board. Parents will be expected to pick up a sick child IMMEDIATELY upon being contacted. Failure to do so will result in immediate dismissal of the child. If a child or staff member is diagnosed with COVID-19, we will immediately notify parents and follow guidelines concerning closing the Center, for cleaning and disinfecting.
Please be advised, while parents have the responsibility of making the decision to send your immune-compromised child to the Center, we reserve the right to deny care if we feel we cannot accommodate their needs. For example, we can no longer do nebulizer treatments at the Center, so if your child is suffering asthmatic symptoms, we cannot accept them until breathing issues are resolved.
In addition, all health, cleaning, and safety measures will be maintained. New EPA approved sanitizers and disinfectants will be used, with “touch points” and equipment being cleaned as scheduled and additionally, when needed. Hands will be washed routinely and protective equipment will be worn when necessary. Finally, all who enter the building, age 3 and up, are required to wear masks. Wee Love will provide our employees with fabric masks. Children’s masks will be provided by parents.
We considered opening earlier, however, the feedback I received indicated that was premature. Given the recent adjustments to the stay at home orders, it is our intent to reopen as early as May 18, 2020. This is, of course, based on the needs of our families. In order to assess those needs, please complete this survey by Wednesday. We look forward to hearing back from you.
Blessings,
Peggy Brady

Dear Parents and Staff:
We hope this letter finds everyone healthy and safe. Thankfully, we have not received any reports of anyone in our Wee Love Family having been diagnosed with this awful virus. We praise God for His protection and favor.
Last week, the governor extended the stay at home order, but relaxed some of the restrictions and it seems will continue to lighten restrictions until the stay at home order expires. In light of that announcement, I reached out last week asking if there were families that were being called back immediately who would now need care. I also contacted some essential workers who I knew had indicated previously that they may need care sooner than later. The response that I received indicated that most people were set with child care until the stay at home order expires. Therefore, it looks like we will reopen after the order is lifted, which would be May 18th, unless it is extended. That is subject to change if there is enough of a need prior, so please feel free to reach out to me if you find yourself in need of care sooner. We plan to reevaluate weekly, according to your needs.
We are currently working on the processes and procedures that will be necessary when we reopen, according to health and safety measures being issued from the CDC and local health department. We will have those in place and will notify you of them before reopening.
On behalf of our staff and parents, I want to thank everyone for their kind words of encouragement and the ongoing communication through various ways that is keeping us all "connected" during this crisis. Once again, if anyone finds themselves with needs that are not being met, please reach out to me. If I am unable to help directly, I am sure I can find the resources available to meet any emerging needs during this unfortunate situation. Stay healthy and stay safe!
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents and Staff:
I am working closely with our board and licensing consultant to establish a wise and safe plan to reopen the Center. Today, Governor Whitmer announced a new plan to extend the stay at home order, but gave numerous exceptions to that order. We will spend this next week navigating and clarifying whether these changes will extend our closure or hasten it.
If you are currently working or have been called back to work and are in need of our services, please text me at 586-933-6777. We need to ascertain the number of students who fall under the guidelines that we will be able to accommodate, with the new regulations that are in place, specific to COVID-19. We will also have to make some changes to our policies, procedures, and classrooms, as well.
We anticipate returning to the Center soon. I will keep you updated as additional information becomes available. We covet your prayers as we make upcoming decisions. Know that we are lifting up our families in prayer continually.
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents and Staff,
As we were all notified yesterday, the Governor has extended the "stay at home" order until April 30th. In addition, both federally and statewide, provisions have been put in place for "paycheck protection", either through loans for small businesses or unemployment compensation, even for those who don't generally qualify. While they haven't worked out all the "kinks" yet, we feel confident that our staff will be covered once processes and funds are made available. So, moving forward, we will no longer be charging anyone's accounts for daycare until we resume operations, which at this point we are targeting May 4, 2020.
We appreciate everyone's participation in what we termed "shared responsibility". Our staff has expressed to me that they are grateful for the willingness on the part of the parents and the church to contribute during these uncertain times, as they know it was a sacrifice. The parents have expressed an appreciation for the staff's and other parents' continued outreach to their children through Zoom visits, FB pictures, texts, calls, and/or cards and letters. It is so rewarding to be a part of a loving and giving community!
For those not on our parent's FB page, I want to extend an invitation to whoever would like to join me in our Center Bible Study, that will pick back up through Zoom Meetings, tomorrow at 10 a.m. This Easter season has been very interesting in light of the history in God's Word and I and others will be sharing some insights we have gleaned. If you are interested in joining us, please let me know and I will provide you with the Zoom information (call or text 586-933-6777).
Finally, if anyone, whether you or someone close to you has need, whether physical, emotional or spiritual, and there is someway we can help, please let me know. We want you to know we plan to continue "shared responsibility"!
May God's blessings be upon you all this Good Friday.
Peggy

Dear Parents,
I hope this finds everyone safe and healthy. These are definitely some trying times. Thankfully, we live in a time where we can still stay connected with the use of technology.
The ever-changing news reports has me going in circles, as it applies to the daycare. Many people contacted me this week concerning the charges to their accounts since the daycare is closed. I thought it would be best to send out an update for everyone.
In the letter posted March 13, 2020, we set out a two phase action plan. On March 23rd, we entered Phase II - Voluntary or Mandated Closure. Prior, people who opted to keep their children home were extended a 75% discount to their tuition. Upon closure, everyone was extended the same discount. The money collected, along with a contribution from New Life Christian Church equal to 25% of collective tuition, is being put in a "benevolence fund" to provide some compensation to the staff while they are laid off. Because we are a non-profit organization, no one qualifies for unemployment compensation.
With that said, Governor Whitmer, under the federal CARES Act, signed an agreements between Michigan and the US Dept of Labor to implement Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and Compensation programs that grant benefits to workers who do not already qualify for state unemployment. Unfortunately, it was not clearly stated that it would include non-profit organizations. The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency will provide additional guidance regarding eligibility and application details in the coming days as it implements these new programs.
Additionally, the Governor did not extend the stay at home order beyond April 13th, as a lot of us expected. That may change, too. So, if and when these programs and orders take place, we will revisit our original plan.
We appreciate everyone's shared responsibility in this difficult time. But we also understand that many of you have also been laid off and may be struggling financially. If the amount of tuition you are presently paying is proving to be a strain, please contact me individually. If you have additional questions or need anything, please feel free to contact me. I am still working remotely from home.
If you haven't already done so, please connect with each other on our Wee Love Facebook family group. Its been a good way to keep the children connected with their friends and teachers. Hope to see you all very soon.
Prayers and Blessings,
Prayers and Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents & Staff,
Governor Whitmer just signed an executive order to shelter-in-place, at least until April 13th, effective at midnight tonight. Due to that action, the daycare will be closing today, due to lack of enrollment. While we are not required to, it is not prudent to stay open for three children and we feel we need to co-operate in getting this under control.
We will continue to keep you updated with any and all new information, as it applies to you and the daycare. Please stay home, stay safe, stay healthy and know that we are praying for you and look forward to seeing everyone again soon. Don't forget to join our private Facebook groups to stay connected with one another.
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents,
Late last night, Governor Whitmer signed an executive order to expand the capacity for child care services for health care workers, first responders, and other members of the essential workforce providing critical infrastructure to Michiganders during the coronavirus crisis. The order provides temporary and limited relief from certain regulatory restrictions regarding child care services and facilitates the use of certain property for child care services.
Executive Order 2020-16, effective immediately, authorizes the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to issue expedited provisional licenses to expand capacity for child care services. It also allows employers, like hospitals, to operate a disaster relief child care centers for their employees. Finally, it allows both public and nonpublic school facilities to be utilized for the purposes of maintaining a disaster relief child care center focused on providing services for member of the essential workforce.
In addition to the new provisions named in the executive order, LARA has also announced the following administrative guidance:
1. LARA encourages trusted neighbors to help each other in providing care for children. The Child Care Organizations Act allows for people to provide unlicensed care for six or fewer children for a period of up to four consecutive weeks in a calendar year.
2. LARA will allow currently licensed centers to extend their operations to additional buildings after LARA has inspected and approved the new locations to assure the safety of the children in care.
3. LARA will expedite the licensing process for current and new applicants for provisional licenses, including faith-based and other community organizations. LARA will apply flexibility and follow reasonability given the COVID-19 emergency situation.
This is a rapidly developing situation and LARA, the Michigan Department of Education, and MDHHS will continue to provide additional guidance as new information and supports are available.
As far as how Wee Love will apply these revisions to our program, we intend to remain open with regularly scheduled hours, as previously decided. We are still implementing our Phase 1 plan (please see previous letter from March 13, 2020). Even though we are able to operate as a disaster relief center, we will continue to serve our current families enrolled here. We urge parents to make the best decision for their family's needs, understanding that your choices may change week to week, due to the circumstances. We just ask that you contact us every Friday to notify us if your child will be here the following week. Due to the low number of student population, we have had to reduce the number of workers. Some of the staff is able to be flexible, but consistency is easier for all. (Be aware that your child(ren)'s teachers may vary during this period).
I also want to encourage parents to join our private Facebook group designed specifically for parents and guardians. It helps to keep everyone connected while not all together at the Center and provides some helpful exchange to navigate the "new normal" we are all so desperately trying to find. Today, we created a private teacher group, too, so we can have group contact with our staff. Also, please make sure your Wee Love notifications is turned on in your NLCC app. We send a notification every time we update information.
We will continue to pray for all our families and will continue to seek God's wisdom for the daycare, as well. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly.
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents:
I received a call from a parent today advising me that she had direct contact on March 9th with someone diagnosed today with Covid19. She was advised to isolate (not quarantine) until March 23rd, as she is showing no symptoms of the virus. Obviously, her child will not be attending the daycare during the isolation period.
Upon hearing this report, I contacted the health dept, who advised me that since our client is not showing any symptoms, there would be no reason to change our plan about remaining open. I then consulted our safety risk consultant, our licensing consultant, and the New Life Church administrator. We all agreed it was prudent to adhere to our original plan to remain open, although be aware, this could change quickly.
The church administrator assured me that all touch points, such as door knobs and light switches, etc. and common areas were sanitized thoroughly after church service today. We will continue to make sure all health and safety policies are modeled to the children, with extra cleaning measures scheduled during the school day.
As stated before, if you are able and choose to keep your child(ren) home for the next few weeks, you will not jeopardize your placement at the Center and will receive a temporary discounted tuition rate of 75%. About 20% of our families have decided to take this option, lowering our student population considerably.
We appreciate everyone's cooperation and encouragement since this situation presented. We will continue to pray and trust in God's grace during this challenging time.
Blessings,
Peggy

Dear Parents:
Thus far, all our communication has addressed the procedural and practical aspects of the COVID 19 crisis. Today, I would like to address the psychological and spiritual impact this is having on our community.
The CDC has provided many downloads on their website to explain the increased anxiety caused by this virus, specifically related to children. The literature gives instruction on how to discuss what is happening with your children and offers practical advice to help reduce anxiety for both adults and children. I recommend you go to the website (link attached in first letter below) and review the material.
Spiritually speaking, many times crisis sends individuals into "faith distress". The continual (but needed) news cycle causes fear and anxiety, which can lead many to feel helpless and hopeless.
Today I want to encourage your faith by reminding everyone that we serve a living God. Like the song says, "Our God is not dead". Not only is He alive, He is in control. Colossians 1:17 says, "He is before all things and by Him all things hold together".
I call Philippians 4 the "mental health" chapter of the Bible. Specifically, verses 4-9 gives practical advice on what you should do and expresses the promise of God for peace of mind, as we apply what it says to our lives and our thoughts.
Finally, and very personally, my husband and I have purposed to make Psalm 91 our prayer and our practice, as we embrace all the promises it contains. Although this has been a focus of our prayers for years, it seems even more relevant in this season. I encourage you to personalize it and make it a prayer for your family, too.
The Chinese symbol for "crisis" also means "opportunity". This crisis is a good opportunity to draw closer to God in our hearts and minds. While large gatherings are being discouraged, now is not a time to isolate from the body of Christ (the church). If we are unable to attend in person, I highly recommend everyone stay connected through on-line services. New Life Christian Church streams on Facebook every Sunday. (This is not an advertisement but an offer to check us out - you can connect through the app used for notifications.) Now, more than ever, we need to recognize the power of unity in Christ.
If you find yourself overwhelmed and would like personal support and/or encouragement, feel free to contact me personally. We have a team of people who are willing to support your needs.
Blessings,
Peggy
